We have chosen 'The
New Creation' as the flower for the months of January
and February as this is the beginning of the new Year,
the new Century and the New Millenium.
In the evolution of the earth this is an important
period when a new world is taking birth and this is
what the Mother says about the New Creation.
"We are at
an especially favourable moment in the universal
existence, a moment when, upon earth, everything
is being prepared for a new creation, or rather,
for a new manifestation in the eternal creation."
*
"The true
change of consciousness is one that will change
the physical conditions of the world and make it
an entirely new creation."
-The
Mother
'The New Creation', or Tuberose as it is popularly
called, is a native of Mexico, and is a tuberous
plant. It blooms in the plains of India during the
monsoons, and in some places all through the year.
The flowers open between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. in the
evening. The flowers remain fresh for a pretty long
time and bathe the atmosphere with their intense
sweet fragrance. The pure white waxy flowers with 6
petals can be used for bouquets as well as for very
artistic garlands. As part of the flower decoration
on the Samadhi in the Ashram, very often we find
garlands of 'The New Creation' forming the symbol of
the Mother or Sri Aurobindo.
When we see stalks of these flowers growing in the
fields we can feel exactly what the Mother says about
them. 'The New Creation - strong, lasting and
fragrant, it rises straight towards the sky'. Even
more showy, larger and thicker with multiple petals
are the stalks and blooms of 'The Perfect New
Creation - clustered, manifold and complete, it
asserts its right to be'.
Both varieties can be grown in pots or in the ground.
In order to flourish well they require a good amount
of compost. Liquid manure should be applied during
the growing period. Supports for the stems, so as to
display their flowers to full majesty, is beneficial
in pot culture. It is helpful to cut the stems after
flowering for producing a second crop.
