THE CENTRE - ITS NEED & PURPOSE

The entire basis of Sri Aurobindo's vision of a new man and a new world is a change of consciousness. "Consciousness" is a term often used by spiritual seekers to denote, in a very general and broad sense, the level or stage of evolution at which the individual is. It is the fundamental state of an individual in terms of psychological and spiritual awareness and advancement. But "consciousness" is no more a term used only by spiritualists; it is becoming quite a favourite with scientists and psychologists. It had to!

Yoga, in its widest and deepest sense, is a psychological process which explores the human consciousness at all its levels and uses various ways and means to integrate it with the highest, the divine consciousness. Our approach in all our projects and activities, be it education, management, health, culture or science, is always the consciousness approach.

ACTIVITIES

The Integral Consciousness Centre will provide the interface between the work being done at Pondicherry and institutions and seekers all over the world. It will receive information and data insights from the world over and also disseminate information about the new researches, activities and programmes undertaken by the Society.

An important function of the Integral Consciousness Centre will be to organise regular conferences, seminars, workshops and training programmes in health, management, education, Indian Culture, Sanskrit, alternative energy resources, appropriate technology, and any other field which can contribute to the spiritual and material perfection of the world.

Sri Aurobindo Society has set aside 6.5 acres of land about 50 mts. from the sea and 8 kms. from Pondicherry for the construction of a complex where these activities will be carried out. While the new building is yet to come, work continues in the main Society office in Pondicherry.
